Most patients do well with a checkup and cleaning twice a year, but the right interval depends on your gum health and history. We will recommend a schedule that fits you.

What makes your exam different?

Dr. Shelyan looks beyond any sign of cavities to your gums, bite, jaw, skin and muscles, and takes the time to explain what he finds. It is a fuller picture than a typical rushed checkup.

Do you offer same-day cleanings for new patients?

Often yes. If your schedule allows, you may be able to add a cleaning the same day as your first exam. If not, we’ll bring you back at a convenient time.

What if you find a problem?

Dr. Shelyan will explain what he sees and your options clearly, before any talk of fees is presented by our treatment coordinator, so you can decide what’s right for you.

    Your first visit includes a full set of images and a thorough exam where Dr. Shelyan checks your teeth, gums, bite, jaw, and muscles, then explains what he finds before any talk of fees. If your schedule allows, a cleaning may be added the same day.

    No, cleanings should not hurt. Our hygienist, Armen, is known for a gentle touch, and if your gums are sensitive we take extra care. Most patients find the visit comfortable and even relaxing.

  • Are dental X-rays safe?

    Yes. Modern dental X-rays use very low levels of radiation, and we only take the images needed to see what an exam alone cannot. They help Dr. Shelyan catch problems early, between and beneath your teeth, while keeping exposure minimal.

  • Does insurance cover cleanings and checkups?

    Most PPO dental plans cover routine cleanings and checkups, often fully, since prevention saves money down the road. We accept all PPO plans and will help you understand your benefits before your visit.
